Before I go any further I want to make it clear that it is not the job of the pastor to save you, it is his job to feed you (John 21:16 – 17 Jesus tells Peter to feed his sheep not save them). In John 12:32 Jesus says if He be lifted up He will draw all men unto himself. Our walk is supposed to be established with Jesus, not our pastors. They are men like us and they will fail us, and they have their own storms in their life.
We must be patient as we wait for an answer, and keep in mind that the Lord may already be working behind the scenes in putting the pieces together. We live in a time where we are so used to getting everything instantly. An example of this are microwave ovens which are a common appliance we all have as is the internet. We use these because we want things right away, but God doesn’t work like that. Not to mention that He can respond, and there have been times when he has responded, immediately. But that’s not always the case. We must be willing to work on His timeline. Let’s be honest: how often do we go before Him and seek Him just to let Him know we love Him and appreciate Him?
Not counting the times we go to church, but when we are at home or at work, school, shopping, etc.? How many of us take Him with us wherever we go and talk to Him as a companion or better yet, as a friend? You’ll be surprised how often He will respond just as a mother responds to her child all the time, from the time it is born to the time the child gets married and moves away. A mother never wants to lose contact with her children. Do you believe that she loves her children more than God loves His? Many times we don’t hear Him because we are too caught up in our own little world and we only want to hear from Him when we are in need of Him.
As I write about my personal experience and knowledge, please understand that you need to get your own relationship with God, use this only as a guide to help yourself in seeking Him out, and always make sure that when you receive an answer from God to cross-check it with His Word. I like to pray in silence to make sure no one can hear me except God, the reason being is because the enemy may also try to answer your prayers in his own way, making you think it is God that is answering you. Don’t forget that the enemy also has powers and misuses the Word to trip you up. Remember the story (Mat. 4:1-11) when Jesus fasted for forty days and Satan tempted him with the Word saying that it is written that if he was to throw himself from the pinnacle he could call on the angles to catch him (Psa 91:12)? All that was true but it is twisting of the scriptures. So, pray in silent as God can hear your thoughts (Mat 6:6 – “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly”).
